The Best Platforms for Building a Website: Webflow, Framer and Bubble

You need a website, but you don't have the budget to hire a software developer, or a simple WordPress site isn't enough. In that case, no-code website builders are a lifesaver. But which one should you choose? There are so many options on the market that it's normal to feel confused.

Over the last six months, we built real client projects on three different platforms. We made portfolio sites, SaaS landing pages and corporate websites. We explored each platform's strengths and weaknesses hands-on.

Webflow: A Designer's Dream

Webflow is the most powerful no-code platform for building pixel-perfect websites without writing code. Even without CSS and HTML knowledge, you can work like a professional designer.

With Webflow, we built a portfolio site for an architecture firm. The firm had very specific design requests and wanted custom animations, parallax effects and a fullscreen gallery. Webflow let us do all of it without writing code. When the client saw the result, they thought we'd had an agency build it.

Webflow's CMS feature is also very powerful. You can easily manage dynamic content like blog posts, portfolio projects and team members. The client can add and edit their own content from the dashboard. This feature is of great value to clients because they don't have to come to us for every update.

A web designer friend of mine specialized entirely in Webflow. He does more than thirty client projects a year and charges above-average rates because delivery times with Webflow are so short. He can finish a two-week project in three days.

Webflow's downside is its learning curve. You need to understand CSS logic, and your first project will probably be challenging. But once you've learned it, you can work incredibly fast.

Framer: Speed and Modernity

Framer aims to make building a website as simple as possible. With its drag-and-drop interface, you can start from templates and go live within minutes.

We built a SaaS product's landing page with Framer. Choosing one of the templates and changing the content took twenty minutes. The result was a modern, fast, responsive page. The animations were smooth, the design was contemporary and the performance was excellent.

Framer's biggest advantage is speed. You can turn an idea into a website very quickly. It's ideal especially for startups and personal projects. If you need an MVP website, you can go live in a day with Framer.

Its AI feature is interesting too. When you enter text, the AI can automatically suggest a page design. A friend of mine created his personal site with Framer AI in ten minutes and is very happy with it.

Framer's limitations show up in complex web applications. It doesn't have advanced features like user login, database operations or e-commerce. It's perfect for marketing sites and portfolio sites, but not sufficient for functional web applications.

Bubble: Building Web Apps

Bubble is designed more for building web applications than websites. You can build advanced features like user registration, databases, payment systems and API integrations without writing code.

With Bubble, we built a freelancer marketplace app. A fully functional web application including user registration, profile creation, job posting, messaging and a payment system. The development process took three weeks.

An entrepreneur I know built his MVP entirely with Bubble. Before raising money from investors, he launched the product and collected feedback from real users. This approach was very effective at convincing investors because he could show real traction.

Bubble's downside is that its design flexibility isn't as good as Webflow's or Framer's. You can end up with less visually polished sites. Performance can also sometimes be an issue, and load times can get long.

Real Project Results

We worked with the same project brief on all three platforms: a corporate website for a digital agency.

With Webflow, we got the most polished and professional result. Custom animations, pixel-perfect design and excellent performance. Time: five days.

With Framer, we got the fastest result. Starting from a template, we went live in two days. The design was modern and clean, but customization was more limited.

With Bubble, we got the most functional result. It included a client portal, contact form and blog management. But the design fell behind the other two. Time: one week.

Conclusion and Recommendation

If you want a design-first marketing site, Webflow. Its design control and CMS power are unrivaled.

If you want a quick landing page or personal site, Framer. You can go live within minutes.

If you want to build a functional web application, Bubble. It offers advanced features like databases and user management.

My advice is to first get clear on what you want to do. A static marketing site or a dynamic application? The answer to that question will make choosing the right platform easier.
